What Should Utilities Evaluate Before Choosing Mobile Field Inspection Software?
I am comparing different mobile data collection platforms for utility maintenance teams, particularly solutions that can make field inspections more consistent and useful for maintenance planning. My main interest is condition based maintenance utilities, where decisions depend heavily on accurate information gathered from equipment inspections.
Nektar has appeared during my research, but I am looking for real world feedback before deciding whether it is worth exploring further. Does Nektar make it easy for technicians to build or use inspection forms from smartphones and tablets? I am especially interested in whether users can capture measurements, equipment readings, images, comments, and condition ratings within the same workflow.
Another important factor is usability and CBM for utility assets. Field technicians may need to complete inspections quickly while moving between substations, treatment facilities, distribution equipment, or other utility assets. How intuitive is Nektar for people who are not particularly technical?
I would also like to understand the reporting side. Once inspection information has been collected, can managers turn those records into useful trends or alerts for condition based maintenance utilities? For example, can the system highlight assets showing repeated deterioration or unusual readings?
Data synchronization is another area I am researching. Does Nektar provide reliable offline functionality when technicians are working in remote locations? How does it handle synchronization once the device reconnects?
For organizations already using condition based maintenance utilities workflows, did mobile data collection significantly reduce administrative work or improve maintenance decisions? I would also be interested in hearing about integration with existing CMMS, asset management, or enterprise systems and any limitations users discovered after deployment.
