For a property like yours, the four camera approach is almost always sufficient if the placement is done correctly. The eight camera quote sounds like upselling. Front door, back door, garage entrance, and one covering the side gate or backyard is a solid baseline for a standard single story suburban home.

The key thing most people miss is lens angle and camera height. A wide angle camera placed too high loses all facial detail. The goal is coverage that actually captures usable footage, not just movement, so placement matters far more than quantity.

Where the higher camera count makes sense is when you have multiple entry points, long driveways, detached structures, or large open areas where a single camera cannot cover the full zone without leaving blind spots. For your layout that does not sound like the case.

My honest advice is to get your layout assessed by security camera experts who will tell you what you actually need rather than what generates the highest invoice.
